Oceanside Pier Southern California.  Wishing I had my tripod on this trip, but sometimes traveling light has it rewards. One body, one lens, no tripod, just your vision and the possibilities.

Looking back from my travels across the US from Florida to Alaska, I found this image in the files that I have not worked on.  This image was made just outside of Sante Fe, NM.

iPhone Hipstamatic photography and panostitch

Winter sunset on the Tanana River with the air temperature dipping well below zero.  The quietness of the river in the winter is wonderful, not another soul for miles; how amazing this is to have to myself.

With the temperatures dropping, the frost is beginning to cling to the trees and envelope the landscape in a coat of white.

The last of the ice bubbles for awhile.  The winter snows have come to the interior and the lakes are now covered with a winters blanket.  Now the trees fill with snow and the frost clings to just about everything during the days of 30 below zero.  My next series will be winter trees and frost.

Ozark Auction Bran from the edge of the Ozark Mountains in north west Arkansas.  This image was made between the small town of Gravette, Arkansas and Hiwassi, Arkansas.  Travels on the back roads of the world is more important than getting there quickly.

Received the Juror Award of Merit from the International Fine Art Photography Competition in Paris.  Thank you Meredith and the de Groot foundation.  It is an honor to be represented by the Grand Prix de la Decouverte.

Valley of Bisti Badlands. Looking through my files from my travels to the Bisti Badlands in New Mexico just outside of Farmington.  This is a wonderful area to explore and photograph and if you are within a days drive away, I suggest you take a detour and see for yourself.

Two trees from my travels.  The first is from Blue Cypress Lake Florida and the second is from along the road somewhere in Southern Utah.

Winter crystals form and change each day as days light grows shorter in the waning month before the winter solstice.  Along the river bank ice crystals form over the gravel bottom creating the transient forms that only exist for a short time.  Now that the winters snow has begun and the temperatures have started the slide toward the negative degrees, I wait for the trees to fill with the winters coat.

The snow continues to hold off in the arctic so the ice patterns on the lakes are an interesting visual study.  Yesterday was spent walking on the ice at Smith Lake near the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and making these ice bubble and abstract images.  The window on these images will close soon as the winter snows approach, in fact the snows are late this year.  I hope to get one more weekend of photographic the ice.

Working with the dress and water reflections again.  I take the dress and toss it in the water and push it around with a stick and then photograph it as it floats.

Recent images from an evening spent by the river photographing reed reflections.

Reflections from the Alaska Marine Ferry Columbia at the port of Juneau a little over a month ago.  The totem is a local park in Fairbanks.  I'm back to teaching photography at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks Alaska, so finding time to go out a photograph is tricky. Hope you enjoy the new images.

Reed reflections.  Out walking along the Tanana River yesterday found some quiet water with some nice reflections.
