Ice Patterns and Lines

The interesting ice patterns from the morning spent along the river.

Ice Patterns and Frozen Bubbles

Ice along the Chena River in Fairbanks, Alaska.  For me it has the feeling of looking into deep space, at the galaxies that exist near the event horizon.

Ice Patterns

It is wondrous to look at the details mother nature provides in the fleeting time the ice forms for but a brief moment only to surrender to the days warmth and to reform again in another pattern.  No two patterns will ever be the same.

Ice Eyes

Winters patterns have returned to the interior of Alaska.  The ice patterns from with the over night temperatures dipping down to the low teens make for wonderful ice studies in the morning light.

A sure sign of winter.  The small bodies of water are showing the ice patterns as the temperatures continue to drop in our northern latitude.  Soon the the ice will cover the lakes and rivers, then for a brief amount of time before the snow comes the ice patterns on the surface of the ponds will be a journey into the wonderful world of patterns.

Mud patterns in the river bed as the summer water recedes with the approach of winter.  The light plays across the ridges highlighting the swirls of mud.  One of my favorite places to explore and photograph is coming back with the receding of the water on the Tanana River in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Reed Angles

Fall has ebbed, the leaves have gone to ground and winter is close to altering the landscape with its winter blanket.  The water will soon freeze and snow will coat the landscape giving a new look to the land.  The reeds have died and dried collapsed over to form interesting angles in the ponds.
